A Fluid-Identity Manifesto

“In a society where biopolitics deprives individuals of the inherent right to identity’s self-autonomy and where people are punished for not seeking enhancements or digitizations, fluid identities become a powerful new identity interface that mediates the self and the environment by giving people back the controls to either realizing situational decentralization in different socio-political scenarios or randomizing parts of self-authenticity through poetic expressions. It breaks the widely presumed normalizations and marginalizations by deconstructing labels and dichotomies while recognizing identities to be fragmented yet authentic, and incomplete but sufficient.”

How to Make Your Own Mask (It’s simple)

A face, a window, and 2 displays make a statement.

 

Step 1: Measure Your Face

The simplest way to do this is to use a ruler to measure the width and length of your face, and then measure the places where your eyes and mouth would be. Then draw a circle and 3 squares on a piece of paper, cut it out and you are good to go.

Step 2: Generate Your Data

We are currently in the progress of gaining more partnerships to let our mask be recognized as the official form of entry in various places. If you want to opt-in for using the mask for official entry, scan your face and an ID, fill out and authenticate your data on our decentralized server. Your personal information is up to your control. You can take it down anytime you want, we just make sure they match.

Otherwise, simply print an image, a message, or anything out in rectangles and stick them to the windows on your mask. Congrats! You now made your own Fluid Mask.

Optional: Opt-In For Our Full Service

We provide further customizations to bring your mask to a fancy finish. Use any face scan software to generate a 3D model of your face. Contact us to send us your 3D model with your name and address, and we will mail you your own customized Fluid Mask.

A side note: You can also upgrade your material choices in your customization. Possible materials include: cardboard, acrylic, powder, resin, silicon, or anything else.

We are a non-profit activist organization and a self-initiative that invites the public to fight against surveillance capitalism and contemporary identity overload. Our artifact is a fluid mask that covers your face while leaving 1 window and 2 displays to alter different parts of your identities that you wish to show, either to fight against data surveillance or to just express your authentic self.

We are currently in the progress of gaining more partnerships with governmental organizations and private businesses to let our mask be recognized as the official form of entry in various places. We hope that with the mask, you can be able to authenticate your identity without having your real face or a whole set of personal data exposed.

Apart from that, the fluid face mask is also a powerful tool to show yourself expressively or poetically, in parts that are core to your identity but not entirely visible to others yet. This can be a preferred gender pronoun, a piece of something you like, a label on you that you want to de-identify, your favorite pet, or anything else that’s core to your identity. We offer a full service, but we strongly encourage everyone to start making it yourself since it can be as simple as cutting a piece of paper and holding it against your face.
